History of the Inaugural NMK–AKE Scientific Conference

Historic Milestone

The inaugural joint NMK–AKE Scientific Conference marked a historic milestone in advancing interdisciplinary research and dialogue around biodiversity and heritage conservation in Africa. Held at the National Museums of Kenya, the conference brought together over 300 delegates, including more than 70 early career scientists, showcasing the next generation of African researchers and conservation leaders.

Launch of the Book of Proceedings

One of the landmark outcomes of the first conference was the publication of a Book of Proceedings, which was officially launched by Hon. Hannah Wendot Cheptumo, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Gender, Culture, and Children Services, during the NMK Science Expo 2025 on 18th May 2025.
